Spare Key Types We Cut & Programme

🔑 Standard Transponder Key

Blade cut from the existing key profile, new transponder chip programmed via OBD. The most common type for vehicles up to around 2015. Ideal for Ford, Vauxhall, older Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, and many others.

🔑 Remote / Flip Key

Flip blade key with integrated remote locking buttons. We supply the housing, cut the blade, insert the correct transponder chip, and programme both the transponder and the remote frequency to your car. Covers most European brands from 2005 onwards.

🔑 Smart / Proximity Key

Keyless entry fob — no blade insertion required to start. These require OBD or EEPROM programming and are the most complex spare key type. We cover all prestige brands including BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo, and Porsche.

🔑 Card Key

Flat card-format keys used on some Renault and Citroën models. We supply and programme replacement card keys on-site.

How We Make Your Spare Key

1

Call & Confirm Details

Tell us your make, model, year, and key type. We confirm the cost and attend at a time that suits you.

2

Cut the Blade

We cut a new blade to exactly match your existing key using precision CNC cutting equipment. Sub-millimetre accuracy.

3

Programme the Transponder

We connect to your car's OBD port and add the new key to the immobiliser system. Your original key stays active — both work independently.

4

Full Test

We test the spare in the ignition, central locking, and remote functions before we leave. The spare is immediately ready to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get a spare key made now rather than wait?

An emergency lockout or lost key situation — when you have no working key at all — is significantly more expensive and disruptive than a planned spare key. A spare key made today from an existing working key starts from £120 + VAT. Replacing all keys from scratch, with EEPROM programming and potential immobiliser reset, starts from £200 + VAT and can take longer. Having a spare also means a lockout situation becomes a minor inconvenience rather than an emergency.

Can you copy a key that has a chip in it?

Yes. We cut the blade profile to match your existing key, then programme a new transponder chip to your car's immobiliser using OBD programming. Both your original key and the new spare will work independently. The original is not deactivated.

Will getting a spare key affect my existing key?

No. Adding a second key to your car's immobiliser does not affect the original key. Both keys are stored independently in the ECU. We can also programme a third key if needed (two spares), and most vehicles support 4–8 stored keys.

Can you make a spare key from a spare that's never been used?

Yes. Any existing working key — original or not — can be used as the basis for cutting a new spare. As long as we have one working key to copy the blade from (or can cut from code), we can programme a new spare.

My spare key is an old one that no longer turns the car — can you fix it?

If the old spare has the correct blade but was deleted from the system (e.g. after a lockout service that reset the immobiliser), we can re-add it. If the blade is worn, we can re-cut it. If the transponder chip has failed, we supply a new chip and programme it. Call us with the make, model, and year.

How much does a spare car key cost?

Spare / duplicate key service starts from £120 + VAT for standard transponder keys. Remote/flip keys are typically £150–£240 + VAT. Smart/proximity spare keys are £180–£350 + VAT. All prices exclude VAT and are quoted fixed before we start.
